Annual Campaign
Dear Friends,
In the past year we have introduced or improved the use of computer technology into ten institutions in Zambia. Becoming the first organization non-governmental or other wise to introduce the use of computers in primary schools in Zambia's western province.
In an effort to help improve schools' access to reading materials we partnered with Books for Africa and USAID and sent our first shipment of books to Zambia. The forty-foot container of 35,000 books arrived in Zambia in June and has since been distributed to a number of organizations including libraries, primary and secondary schools and colleges. In all the shipment has provided books to no less than ten thousand beneficiaries significantly improving schools' access to books and directly supporting literacy development. Given that 35 percent of Zambia's school going children do not attend school due to costs associated with buying books, while an estimated 70 percent of Zambian schools do not have adequate access to reading materials, we are very excited about the possibilities this opens up to these communities.
This summer, we are partnering with Lewanika General Hospital to help convert its paper based records into electronic format. The current system is antiquated and archaic making it difficult to not only manage records but patient histories. The new system will help improve the delivery of health by making it easier more effective for medical staff to monitor and evaluate patient progress.
We are pleased to announce we have added four new organizations to our list of partners Proliteracy, The National Christina Foundation, International Reading Association and the National Association of Independent Schools. We are excited about these new alliances and are confident they will greatly improve and enhance our programming and services.
A profound thank you goes to Jamie Pelusi for giving so unselfishly of her time and resources. A Special thank you to Mr.& Mrs. John Pelusi for their unparalleled support in the past year. Without them much of our work would have been possible. We remain deeply indebted to you and grateful to you for your kind and generous support.
Thank you to our educational partners at Teachers Without Borders, Books for Africa and Better World Books. Thank you to all of you who have in one way or another made it possible for us to achieve the success we have in our first year. We could not have done it without your kind and generous support.
The challenges ahead of us are far from small but we are confident with your support our efforts will be met even greater success. We encourage to support our Annual campaign pr explore others ways in which you can help support our work.
As we conclude one year and begin another, we hope you will join as we continue to support students, empower educators and engage communities.
Sincerely,
Mbao Ngula
Executive Director
